How we rank local pros

Rated Local Pros publishes a transparent Rank v1 score so you can compare providers without guessing what “best” means. Rankings are informational — not a guarantee of hire outcome, price, or availability.

Rank v1 formula

45% smoothed star rating — star average adjusted so tiny sample sizes don’t dominate.

25% review volume — more public feedback generally means a more stable signal.

30% 90-day positive review velocity — how strongly positive reviews are arriving in the last ~90 days.

We balance long-term reputation with recent momentum.

Data sources

Preferred: Google Places API and related Google Business Profile public signals available via Places. Not used for v1: scraping Yelp, Thumbtack, or other sources in ways that violate their Terms of Service. Market pages show a ranking snapshot date or clear PREVIEW label while scores are pending.

What you’ll see

City + service rankings with Rank, Business, Stars (smoothed), Volume, 90-day velocity, and Score. Until Places-backed scores are live, tables are labeled PREVIEW with placeholder rows. We will not invent business names or metrics.

What we don’t do

No pay-to-rank. No fake leaderboards. No guarantee of licensing, insurance, job quality, price, or availability. Lead matching is a separate product path; consented matching partners are listed at /partners/.

How scores update

Expect periodic refreshes as Places data is pulled and Rank v1 recalculated. Each money page should display when the snapshot was generated; delayed data stays in PREVIEW mode.
